PTIers,
It has been a while since I have personally had a tech challenge, but I have one that really has me stumped. I just moved into a new home with a really cool home theatre. The previous owner left most of his equipment as part of the sale. Things were going good until I chanaged a component in the setup. I have a really cool RF remote control. This thing has a color touch screen, tabs, and lighted buttons. The model is MX-3000 and I think the company name is Universal Remote Control (not sure though).
The remote worked flawlessly with the old TIVO box, but when I changed to a Directv HD DVR the remote no longer works…wouldn’t expect it to. Now I have to use two remotes, one for the dvr and one for everything else. Not sure who to call, but there seems to be a way to download information on this thing.
Is anyone familiar with what I am going through. Is there a PTIer out there that can explain to me what I have to do??? PTIers to the rescue…HELP!!!!!!
Our website is http://www.universalremote.com and yes, we do make the MX-3000. It is not designed to be user-programmed, but to be programmed for you by a custom installer. You can find a professional by checking out http://www.cedia.org (organization of pros).
However, if you feel like taking on a weekend project, you’ll find a few end users at http://www.remotecentral.com who actually do program their own MX-3000s and can help you learn to do it yourself.
Thanks, Eric.
Not sure which way I would go. There is a part of me that would like to be able to do this myself (I don’t anticipate replacing many of the components after this). Also, since I am a second owner, do you think there will be charge to have it programmed?
Fast Follower just had a home theatre built from scratch, and he mentioned that the installers did all of the programming. He didn’t have to do a thing.
There is a part of me that is resisting always having to go to an outside entity each time I get a new component. I think I understand how to do the programming, just don’t know where to get profiles. From what I have read, there used to be a website that would update the profile listing. I have the cable, the software, and activsync, but no profile.
Maybe professional help is the way to go. Now all I have to do is find the right one.
Just telling it like it is….
Hello,
I came across you post and would like to offer you a solution.
I am a pro with this and other remotes, running a home theater solution company in South Florida.
If you are interested, I can make this work without you sending me the remote.
How much would you charge to program 3 or 4 devices?
Sascha de Gregori, what do I have to do???? It appears that I could do it via the USB hookup if I only had the codes for the DirecTV remote control.
Any direction, instruction, advise is appreciated.
Just tell it like it is!!!
Thanks.
Actually, there is a manual included with the software. It is accessible under the Help menu.
Alright PTIers. I am finally back from vacation! Gonna take Sascha up on his offer and see if he can get the right codes in for me. How can this be so complicated????
