Could this iPhone thing from Apple make me change the way I think about mobile “phoning” and “PDAing” (and maybe even “iPoding”)?  Check out this PC World piece about the Apple annoucement.

I’m not sure I buy the ease of use of doing email without a dedicated keyboard. Did anybody see how this will work?

TI says that the 6700 is the best phone/PDA made. Is this iPhone thing better?

I have to tell you FF. The iPhone appears to have it all, and will be a big hit. However, it is not clear to me how effective it will be as a business tool. I really think that the YouTube generation will have a ball with this product. Seems to offer everything that they have been asking for.

The questions that I have are…

How good of a PDA will it be?
How do I input text?
Will it be a good email device?
What type of system will it sync with?

I am not yet calling it a Smartphone, because it doesn’t appear to be attacking that segment. We may need to think of a new segment… maybe MediaPhone, or Infotainment Device, etc. However, this thing seems to blow the Fusic and Chocolate type phones out of the water.

Sorta like me and you on the golf course, there is no comparison! I am clearly the leader this year. I am taking it to the next level, just like Steve Jobs did the other day. Get ready for me to shock the world this year!!!!

I can’t imagine inputting text (email or text messages) using the iPhone screen. There’s no feel on an lcd screen. Dedicated text input keys must be far easier to use.

FF, here is another article pertaining to the iPhone. As you know, I am a huge propoent of open sourcing and third party apps! Take a look at this article. It appears that the iPhone is closed to any third party apps! Big mistake? Doese this change your opinions? It is sorta like the exclusive New York night clubs…. you know there is a heck of a party going on, but what good does it do, if you aren’t on the VIP list and can’t get in!

Take a look at the article….

PTIers,
I thought I would resurrect this particular post. As you recall while at the CES in Janauary, I heard about the iPhone for the first time. Now that the product has launched, I still have the same questions…

As you recall, in January, Fast Follwer and I questioned the ease of use and the acceptability of the touchscreen keyboard. So far the reviews are mixed, but I think that my initial caution might be true. It appears that the device is OK, but might not be a good business device. It appears that the touchscreen keyboard to input text lacks the haptic feel that most older business people are used to.

Is this a problem or will it just take some getting used to? Will older users have the patience and give the device enough time before they get totally frustrated with the whole text input scheme?

Well, I have a personal friend that has already returned his unit. His primary reason was the text inputting! Instead of recapping his comments, I will ask him to post some “first thoughts”. By the way this is the same buddy that was at CES with me in January.

Cutting Edge iPhoners… Let us hear some of your first reactions and comments. We need to hear you TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!!

See the keyboard review in this article…
