Let’s have some fun!! Let’s explore and try some of these techniques out!! As we have done a lot of posts about Sprint and their devious ways, there are some folks out there with some outlandish ideas pertaining to avoiding Sprint early termination fees! Let’s hear from you. I will add a couple of the methods that I have heard of and want you to share yours. Try these at your own risk, but if you do try any of these methods…..TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!!!
Not sure if this works, but one PTIer says that if you call Sprint and tell them that the subscriber has “kicked the bucket”, died, “is now pushing up roses” that Sprint will cancel the contract, no questions asked and not charge any ETFs!!!

Here’s another that sounds more reasonable….
Tell Sprint you are moving to an area that doesn’t have Sprint coverage! This will first require carefully studying the most updated Sprint coverage map. Then just find an area with no coverage, and walla!!! They let you out of the contract with no ETFs!!!

Almost forgot this one… Keep calling customer service and TELL IT LIKE IT IS for 10 days straight, and they will cordially ask you to leave with no ETF!!!

Sprint just changed new billing programs, I was going over minutes and tried to buy more at $5.00/100 min, but was told there was no access to my acct until the next week. On checking when it came back up my phone said I had all my monthly minutes and had used 0 for the month, happily we used our phones to find Monday morning it says we have exceeded the plan minutes, even though we only spoke a few. Is this some kind of breach where I could early term my plan without the early term fees?
Not sure, but it is sure worth a try! You just got hit by the… “we take no responsibility for the way our website updates your information, but it is always up to date on your billing and charges” scam!
Not sure, but I always say it is always worth a try to get out of a Sprint contract.

cant just move to get out of contract , i bought a new house can get sprint so i cancelled thinking o wouldnt have to pay imagine my surprise when i was told to read my contract and in it it says sprint is not responcable for provideing me with service….. so the hit me with 400 bucks in fees so i just pay 5 bucks a week lol
I been with Sprint for the last 7yrs and I always have problem with all the phone, if is one thing is another. I paid a lot for just 500min and I see that other companies they give more mins for less money for example T-Molible and Verizon. I just want to know how I can avoid my cancellation fee, so I could get a company that help my pocket. Thank you very much 🙂
mary if you have been with sprint for 7 years you can get whatever you want from them. make sure to call retentions (google it) @ sprint customer care. now you have to be firm and keep telling them that you’ve been a customer for 7 years and now your moving to tmobile or cingular if nothing can be done for your cell phone plan. they WILL BUDGE. they will do anything to keep you and you have leverage since you’ve been with them so long. i’ve been with them 3 years, and i called retentions and now instead of 2 phones w/ 1000 mins shared for $125, i talked them down to $60 for the same plan plus free 6pm nights, unlim nights and weekends, 1000 free text messages for both phones, free unlimited internet on both phones, and upgrades for both phones. mention that you work for chase bank too, they will not check, and they will knock another 25% off your bill. just be nice and calm and let them know that after 7 years your just going to switch. loyalty counts.
Gotta agree with MIM… this is the time that you have the most leverage. I have a plan that didn’t even exist (after all of the extras that were thrown in by the retention group)… I now have free roaming and free texting on all of my phones. I am paying about 125/month for 4 phones. I have even had representatives tell me to never change my plan…cause I will never get anything close. Needless to say, I DID have to spend several hours, over the years, arguing, complaining and negotiating! Too bad most American business just don’t get the fact that if they take care of customers we will come with bags full of money for years and years and years!!!

moving out of the service area does work, but you must provide a utility bill with the new address and it must be in your name. (just got off the phone with them and they said no etf would be charged)

hey guys, i found the real deal. called sprint and asked if it would work (the representative was very friendly). so here’s how you do it 🙂
1. call *2 on your phone
2. Ask to be switched over to Nextel (requires purchasing a nextel phone [$50-$100])
3. Within 30 days of signing up with your new Nextel contract, simply call back and cancel your account. No early termination fee’s nothing. 😀

Funniest thing, I wanted to switch to the iphone so badly once it came out, but have two lines with sprint and would have had to fork over 400 in ETF. I moved this month and come to find out, I have no service with sprint at my new address! I just called and canceled both lines, no questions asked. Getting my new iphone for 199 on friday! Yay!! And AT & T has full coverage at my new address according to its coverage map :))

Hey, I have been reading a lot of ideas on how to get out of your contract with sprint without having to pay but I am worried that it work. I have been with sprint for like 3 years now and I hate it! I dont get service at my house and they told us we dont get charged roaming and we do. So we have been calling and they took the charges off this month and said for us to call back next month to get them removed. This is just ridiculous and we both want out of our contract. Any ideas or do you know if just telling them we dont have service where we live and also we keep roaming will work?

Here’s what I did and it ended up working…
First, go to the Sprint coverage map on their website. If your home location is in a weak coverage area, you are on your way. This is what I did, it goes a long way when making your point… Now I have a no cost line item called “America Roaming” for all of my lines. Whallah!!! No more roaming charges. The key is tell them that they made an adjustment for a “firend” with the same issue, and they offered free “America Roaming” at no charge so that he could continue with Sprint. Hey… its worth a try, right???

Let me tell you this company is on it’s way out. The writing is on the wall. The entire company is out of control and in ruins. From customer service rep’s to the corporate office. The tactics they are using are going to get them more lawsuits and biggers fines. The new billing answers including “My system has limited information on your account” and the “We are not responsible non updated billing information” is outrageous. Who runs a business like this. Hey Sprint I hope you are reading this because it’s the EXACT reason you are losing millions of customers. Your wireless data networks will not save you. I can promise you that. You treat people bad, scam them and lie to them and they will destroy your business by not coming back. There are many great American companies that have been around for years, always grow and always turn a profit. Even in the age of the internet and massive incorporation it is still about the “CUSTOMER” That little guy who works at 7-11 and pays his monthly bill with the overages EVERY month so he can call his girlfriend is your base. All those people are the only thing keeping you alive. IT’S OVER. You’ve been had. And you are so stupid that you don’t realize that Verizon for example typically charges more form everything including plans but somehow still stays strong. You know why? Because they treat the customer right and don’t have to sneak charges in. They ge the big bucks just for be easy to deal with. I hate Verizon but you know why I stay? Because they treat me good. When I owed $900 and could only pay $200 they kept me on. It tooks three months to pay that down and they never shut me off. They hooked me up with 3 for free phone also. Back to the point……..Your a failing business and it’s because of one thing and one thing only………..BAD MANAGEMENT.

On my most recent Sprint bill for September, it said they are making changes to the contract terms, something about international calling. It then says to check the website for more information but I cant find any. Does anyone know if these changes can be grounds for canceling the contract this month? Thanks!
At one point we had a Sprint PTIer that advised that if there is ever a change in the terms that you could not accept them and cancel the plan. The bills used to spell out that paying the invoice also served as acceptance of the new terms. My advice would be to call Sprint and explain that as a result of the rate changes you would like to exercise your right to terminate the contract at no cost… its worth a try right. You might want to throw some legal terms and verbiage in your explanation, as well.
Let PTIers know the outcome. Often when you challenge a aspect of the contract, you will get an explanation why this situation does not apply. This is also helpful for future situations.

I have been surfing the web to see what excuse I could use to avoid paying my $200.00 ETF because my contract does not end until 2010 with Nextel and I think I’m going to have someone call in and say I’m dead! Will this work???
I haven’t tried it myself, but there are some the claim it does! If it does, come back and let us know the outcome.

OK PTIers, first I must admit that I have not been able to confirm this method. I was at a restaurant, and I heard two guys talking. It sounded reasonable, so I thought I would share it with you. Let me know what you think, and if there are any of you that can confirm this…
Here it goes…
If you cancel all of your service, you will be charged a cancellation fee. However, cancellation fees are not service charges. Therefore, there is no interest or late fees assessed to them (first item that needs to be confirmed). If this is the case, you should be able to cancel your service and simply pay $1/month for eternity!!
The guys next to me mentioned that they used this to have some bogus charges removed from there bill. When the Sprint CSR threatened him with the cancellation fee, he responded…”fine, go ahead. you can’t charge interest on it, there are no terms tied to it, so I will simply pay you $1 each month!!!” The story goes that theCSR realizing that he was one-upped, quickly retreated removed the alleged bogus charges in order to keep the $88/month cash flow going!!
Sound reasonable?

At last!!
We just terminated our contract with SPRINT. We moved from another state and A LOT of problems began. After two months waiting and fighting with these f#$%@rs WE ARE finished. First we ask for a termination because we can’t talk from our home (4th floor in a condominium), we don’t have any coverage, they say: “yes, you have”… You can’t argue with those guys, they only say: No.
So this month in our bill I saw a change in intrastate & interstate calculation for taxes and SURCHARGES, effective October 2008. And that’s the point, but not without a war. I spoke more than 45 minutes with 2 agents and a supervisor (Spanish department) and they said “NO”. Then my wife called again (on our LAND LINE….because the friggin cell phone kept cutting out ) and talked with a great guy (now in English). She explained all our past/present issues to him and he said that the coverage is good where we live and is not a reason, but the surcharges change is ok. so he said, ok, no cancellation fee.
YEAH!!!! FINALLY….WELL…LET’S HOPE THE BILL REFLECTS THIS!

My husband is leaving soon on deployment and we are wanting to get out of our sprint contract and get at&t. I am thinking about telling them about the deployment and that I will be traveling a lot ( to a place where there is absolutely no service) U think it will work????
I would leave out the “going to at&t” part, but otherwise, give it a try!!!

I need to cancel my sprint contract they extended my contract until July 2009 it supposted to end this month… any ideas how to cancel it? well also paying a dollar a month would mess my credit?
I admit, just heard about the dollar a month thing. Not sure about the impact on your credit. I hear that paying on a late fee, won’t mess your credit up, but I don’t have any personal experience, and can’t find anything in writing.
The September contract changes I talked about earlier were for international calling rates and since I don’t have that on my service they said I couldn’t dispute it. They did make changes to this months bill, something about tax surcharges but when I called they said that my bill wouldn’t change so I couldn’t dispute that either. My contract ends Nov 11 2008 so I am just counting down the days to get out of Sprints control. I hate them!
I even asked today when I called them about paying the balance of my bill up front just to be able to get out of it and they said they wouldn’t be willing to do that. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t just take the money up front and let me off their network. They are being such jerks about it.

tried the september contract change approach and it did not work!
can any body help me . my contract with sprint ended in july of 08 and iv been on a month to month sence then , i just changed to att and called sprint to make sure the phones were cut off and they told me i owed them 200 for each phone . i told them that my contract was up in july , and they said i called them in april and verblelly signed another 2 year contract witch is wrong, that is a bold tace lie , i ask for some proof and she said it was a verble cantract and all they had were there notes. somwone please help. emaill me.thank you
Hmmmm… did you receive anything from Sprint in April? Like a new phone, with the reduced rate, or did you change plans or something? You are right… why would anyone just call Sprint to say, hey, sign me up for two more years!
The only thing that I can think of is that you inadvertantly let them sell you something, and in return they stuck you with 2 more years?? I’d be interested to hear how this one turns out for you.

Well people I just want to let you know that I am the proud new owner of an iphone… and a few weeks early to boot! Just wanted to let you guys know that you can cancel your Sprint contract with no EFT when you are within 30 days of the last day of your agreement. I didnt realize this and I called them yesterday with 3 weeks left just trying anything to convince them to let me out early. The woman told me I was able to get out with no fee since I was within 30 days of my contract ending. I didnt complain and I was out!
Just wanted to let you guys know that its a nice little trick when you are waiting desperately to get out from Sprints clutches! Have fun people. Oh and by the way, the iphone is awesome! So far I have much better coverage in my house too which is the whole reason I hated Sprint to begin with. Happy Halloween people!

Hello Everyone. I am an employee of Sprint. It is unfortunate to see so many people dissatasfied with their Sprint service. That is definatly not the intention and I can tell you from my perspective that things are turning in the right direction. Those of you that were with sprint several years ago are having a tough time beucase the way Sprint does business has changed from a few years ago. As Sprint changes their is a level of change required by a customer. I understand this can be a difficult process becuase the old way an issue might get resolved has changed. Sprintassistant, I am really impressed. NEVER have I heard this much compassion and “over and beyondness” from any customer service rep. If you are sincere, PTIers commend you, your efforts, and whatever has happened at Sprint that compels you to go to this extent. You have really put, yourself out there.

What good would email phishing do. Their are plenty of places someone can go on the internet and email addresses are posted. No need to phish for them. Also why would one person spend so much of their free time phishing. Serves no purpose. Do you have so much time that you can. I do not.

Over and beyond is the way I work. I do not except less and will never provide less. Sprint is a good company and has great services but lets face it, sometimes it is difficult to get an issue resolved. I have a one up on all sprint customers. I work there meaning that I know about not only the offerings but what can and can;t be done, when an issue does not get resolved or someone is going in circles trying to get an answer I can point them in the right direction. No guess work. If we all had these abilities their would be no problems. I have this knowledge and am offering to share it with anyone that it will do some good. If you think this is phishing and still cannot get an issue resolved keep doing what you are doing. No sweat off my back. In most cases it is a simple answer like what department to speak with or if a coverage issue laying out exact steps on what to check, how to check it then who to call to investigate further.

Sprint Assistance is not Sprint sponsored. Despite what people think their are people that read these posts to get out of early termination fees because they have an unresolved issue. They don’t really want to leave sprint but need their problem fixed. I can give them direction. I can set their expectations if their is really a reasonable solution or id they are just wasting time. Also do you really expect me to post my actual email address? Really? If you have a question email me. If you don’t trust this then don’t. It is that simple. I have already had several emails and this led to several resolved issues and realistic expectations. If you see a possible different resolution let me know.

That does not work anymore. It did 6 months ago and before due to separate billing systems however the old sprint billing system has been decommissioned and you cannot fool the system like that anymore.

You are right we do not charge interest, we charge late fees. Even on early termination fees. Late fees are up to 5% depending on what state you are in. Most are 5%. You will be charged late fees, taken to a collection agency and your credit will be effected by this. I would try and find a different solution than this. Don’t ever hope the system will let you slip through the cracks. Most of the time it catches up with you in a way you don’t want it to.

My Sprint contract isn’t up until May of 2009, and I’ve actually scheduled reminders on my phone and my Outlook at work. I spoke with a man/jerk in the cancellation department last week. I asked if there was any legitimate way out of the contract and he told me, “that’s what a contract is for.” What a sweetie. Anyway, I felt compelled to remind him that a judge apparently disagreed a few months ago and ordered Sprint to pay out over tens of millions of dollars. I’m sure he immediately made a note on my file, so I’ll just stick it out. Arrrrrgh!
Admin fee changing in 2009 from .75 to .99?? Can I use that to cancel? I think they may say something like it’s subject to change, so I’m assuming that it’s not ground for cancellation??? I’m in jail till Jan. 2010!!!

Sprint claims I okayed a 10% “discount on my bill” over the phone last February and somehow agreed to extend my contract for 2 more years. It ends up this applies to ALL the phones on my family plan even if some of those phones will be nearly 3 years old at the end of the new term. First FACT: the 10% discount only applies to the “access” fee. This amounts to $1 per month on two lines and $2 on my line. So for $4 in savings on a bill that is over $170 monthly, my brother and his son can’t get off the plan unless they pay $400 in ETFs. PLUS, their phones will both be 2 years old in 2 months, but if they get a new phone Sprint said it would extend the contract for 2 more years, so the only choice is to keep their phones for nearly 3 years (one is already almost gone). THIS IS A SCAM! Sprint said there’s nothing they can do because I “confirmed” this change. I chatted with an agent and was transferred to another level up and was told “too bad.” I told them I would repay the 10% discounts but they said “no can do.” I have been with them for 5 years and this is an example of PATHETIC, USED CAR-SALESMAN SLICK WILLY SCAMMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Research getting out of sprint contract Jan 2009. They changed the admin fee from .75 to .99 which is a materially adverse change. They will tell you no, but keep calling so they note your account. After talking to 3 reps then call executive customer care (number is on the consumerist website) and they will get you out once you start complaining that you were supposed to get a supervisor call back etc.
That’s what happened to me and they waived. I was supposed to get a supervisor call back and never did. DON”T PAY YOUR JAN. BILL if you haven’t yet. You only have 30 days from bill date. Good luck.

sprint SUCKS DONKEY BALLS that company is a joke a 500 $$ bill for 1 month no overages nothing … something is wrong but sprint says the BILL is correct i’ve told the last 20 reps i will not pay the term fee and they said have told me there is nothing they can do i have been speaking with the corp exc: also nothing they can do they have waive the term fees before they can do it again i have tried everything from the new fees as of my feb bill stats to poor customer service to call the BBB on them . Nothing is working .. HELP !
to all of us sprint victims out there, this company is the worst in every way. we have been with them for over 10 years and last summer upgraded one of our phones and the problems that we have had on and off over those 10 year increased to a almost weekly problem with them and customer service is hands down the worst i have ever delt with. we cancelled service and of course they will not let us out of the $200.00 fee even after I had expalained to them all of the on going issues we have had over the past 10 or so months with the new contract and all the billing mistakes and problems. the credits issued to us is a clear indication of the inconsisitant crap i have been fed by the spint cust service reps. you would think that a company with so may lawsuits and upset customers they would take long hard look at there mistakes and at least make a deal with those unsatisfied people. but, NO! so you go sprint you will be out of business soon i am sure your business practices will make sure of that. i have given my account info and the long list of issues to my lawyer and i will NEVER pay that fee EVER! i would rather give my lawyer $1000.00 to fight this than your shitty company one more red cent! ITS THE PRINCIPAL OF THE THING. ps. any other suggestions on how to avoid this term fee would be greatly excepted

RE: HELP Getting the Early Termination Fee Waived
I’ve called Sprint numerous times the past few months regarding their increase in rates and the phone being too expensive and the possibility of having to cancel my account.
Someone had told me that because of their increase in the administrative charge we could get the ETF waived. Can anyone confirm that?
Because they threatened me a couple of months ago that I would still have to pay the $200 ETF, I didn’t cancel at that time. Their records do showed that I called complaining of how expensive the phone has gotten and that I inquired about cancelling but apparently did not go into further details.
I finally decided on 4/13/09 to cancel.
The rep I spoke to at Sprint on 4/15/09, told me I missed the deadline to dispute the administrative charge. He said that it was noted in my Feb/March invoice that I would have had to notify them by 3/15/09 to dispute. I told him that didn’t make sense as my closing date isn’t until the 22nd of the month and I didn’t receive my Feb/March statement until the end of March so how was I supposed to respond 2 weeks earlier than receiving that invoice. He didn’t know how to respond and asked if I wanted to talk to his supervisor. I said yes. He put me through to the supervisor and I left a voice message on 4/15/09. She did not return my call so I sent a letter the following day.
Two days ago I received a bill for $235.42 to cover a $200 ETF as well as $35.42 in government tax, fees, as well as a $5.46 sprint surcharge fee.
I just sent another letter off yesterday disputing the charges and again letting them know I still have not heard back from the supervisor.
Can anyone give me advise on how to get this charge dropped? Any help (as soon as possible) would be truly appreciated.

OK – Here is my exciting news!!! I finally got it waived. Took me over an hour on the phone, was put on hold at least a dz times, was transferred to about 3 or 4 ppl. I told them I had all day so to keep transferring me to another supervisor.
They would put me on with a supervisor who would tell me “I would if I could but I’m not authorized to do so.” So I tell them to put me through to someone who can waive it.
Then I told them to pull my voice recording to listen to an earlier conversation and they told me they don’t have voice recordings from prior months (they use that to scare people).
I kept being persistant and told them I had all day long to sit on the phone, especially since it was there dime (1-800 #) . After 1 full hour (60 min) I WON!! They waived the ETF ( and yes, they added on over $30 in taxes and Sprint Surcharges – can you believe they add on a SPRINT SURCHARGE to an early activation fee??).
I think the 1 hour mark (if you can make it that long – and it was very hard) is when they finally fold……
the new game at Srint is to transfer you to voice mail and ignore you. They have done it to me twice in 7 days. They are also taxing etf. They are going out of business and stealing as much as they can. No service, no service support.. Makes sense.

Does anyone know how thoroughly Sprint checks the documentation submitted in order to get out of the ETF? I was told a utility bill or mortgage agreement would be sufficient. I wondered if Sprint had the resouces/ authority to check the validity? I really want out of my contract, but dont’ want to pay the $600 (3 lines) ETF.

Ok, so I bought the HTC Mogul from Sprint about march or june of 2008. Right away i noticed that they phone had some issues with it. I took it to Sprint to get it tested and was told that there was nothing wrong with the phone. I called sprint to see what they could do and they told me that all they could do was send me a replacement. (at the time i wasn’t eligible for an upgrade) I didn’t want to replace one crappy phone for another (that’s dumb), so I declined. I also don’t have $$ coming out of my ears so I couldn’t just buy another. So I still have the phone and two days ago it craps out on me. I called sprint told them I did everything that I could with the phone and I was DONE. They told me they would send me a replacement phone and then send me a updated version of it since they didn’t have the Mogul anymore. But they said I would have to wait til 8-1-2009 to get my discount. HELLO I need my phone today!! So then I stated that I wanted to terminate my contract and after being transfered to 4 different people I was denied. I don’t understand. I paid for a phone that costs about $300.00/$400.00 (x2 becuase I bought one for my husband as well) and now I have to pay a $200.00 (x2 for my husband’s lilne too)ETF??!!!! I don’t think I should have to pay this fee becuase the phone never worked right in the first place. They new they had a faulty product and still put it on the market for consumers to buy. Call me crazy but I don’t think I should have to shout out $$ for something that was not my fault in the first place. Please, someone let me know what to do.
you can get out of your sprint account! ive had problems since i joined up with them and recently its proven to be too much. i did some research and apparently as of 1/10/10 they are instituting a new fee to spending limit accounts. it will cost 4.99 a month extra if you have this on your plan. this is as they word it “a material change to your agreement” they will argue with you. but you can use this, only catch is you have 30 days to do it. good luck! im on my way to verizon right now…. 😉

I just canceled under the material change issue as well. They had a 40 cent increase under the “Regulatory Charge” category. Look on your last statement If you call and cite this as your reason you can get out of your contract until March 1st.

Here is yet another scam. About a year ago i went rounds and rounds with many Sprint operators. They had told me that i was always paid a month ahead.(which i am sure most of you have been told too!!!!!) well after i changed plans to a lesser plan i was never given credit of the difference of my new plan of $65 and the old plan of $135. Where the hell did that $70 dollars go?
I just had to call Sprint today to double-check when my service is up. The rep at the Sprint store told me it was up on July 1st, 2010. I told him I thought I had a 2-year contract. He said nope, it was up in July. So, just to confirm, I called customer service. They said my contract wasn’t up until 2013. I had bought my plan in July, 2009. What the?? I was transferred to Account Admin or whatever, and complained that I was told that my contract was up this July. They told me it wasn’t up until 2013 because of a discount the rep had given me for working at a certain place. He never told me it would add two more years onto my contract!!! So first, I HAVE to stay with Sprint for another year, I’m already switching over to AT&T, and on top of that, no one in that damn company ever tells me anything that they’re doing. I’ve had five replacement phones in the last year, and the last phone that broke WAS a brand new replacement. Nothing worked and they wouldn’t replace it. It was a day old. I’m soooo sick of Sprint and their cheap product. Is there any leverage with any of this to get out without the fees?
Ok, I signed up for a 2 year contract about 4 months ago. When I signed the contract I was told (by the person who I was buying the Sprint contract from) that I could call any mobile phone with in the USA without using my minutes. The person wrote that I could call any mobile phone within the USA, on a Service Agreement paper. Now after receiving my latest bill, I find out that I was mislead by the sales person. I faxed over the Service Agreement paper, but they keep asking me for my contract, which I never got, b/c whatever the person said I would get in the contract is on the Service Agreement, but Sprint would accept it b/c it doesn’t have there phone number or address. I went back to the store from where I bought the contract from asking if they could/would help. They outright said no..
So is there anything I can do to cancel my contract on any bases without paying $200 per line ( I have 4 lines)???
The way I did it:
I disputed the reason for contract being renewed (and in all honesty, I don’t know how it was, or who did it–they stated that I used the equiptment upgrade, although I never did purchase a new phone through sprint). Took a few phone calls, and they accepted it.
