Will $99.99 for unlimited everything make you think differently about Sprint?  There are reports suggesting this is what Sprint will do.

Fear, Hope, and Love with Electronic Gadgets and the Companies who Make Them February 5, 2008

I wish I could take credit for this theory about why we as consumers engage with companies and their products. But I can’t. This comes from Seth Godin on his blog. It makes me think about many of the posts and comments on PTI about the electronic gadgets and services we all use. After reading Godin’s post, how many of the devices and the device makers fall into the Fear, Hope, and Love categories for PTIers?

What about Apple? Or iPod? Or iMac? Or iPhone? What about PPC-6700? What about Microsoft? Or Windows? Or Office? What about Sprint? What about Verizon?  What about Playstation? What about XBox? What about Slingbox? What about Blackberry? What about Directv? What about Quicken?  What about Dell?

Is there something missing from the 3 categories (fear, hope, love)? Interestingly, many of our posts are about complaints concerning the gadgets or services we use. Might there be another category called “Necessity” for why we buy and use certain gadgets (or continue to use certain gadgets and services while we face constant problems)?

Will Sprint Fix Customer Service December 18, 2007

We’ve pounded Sprint here at PTI for some time now about their terrible customer service.  And they’ve deserved every smack.  But, they’ve got a new CEO now.  Over on Silicon Alley Insider they give the new chief some advice about how to fix the company.  The first thing they suggest is to stop losing customers.  And the best way to do that is to fix customer service.  Because we all know it stinks.

Verizon to Open Itself to All Handsets November 27, 2007

Now we’re talking about something!  It looks like Google is already having an impact on some of the mobile service providers. Check out this piece about Verizon opening its service to all handsets next year.  If this occurs, will this be the beginning of a change in the business models of the the wireless carriers like Verizon?

TI – You’ve been predicting the carriers’ demise (mostly Sprint).  But maybe those that try to change could have a new birth.  We’ll see.

Are you listening  Do you hear that Sprint? Do something good for your consumer for a change.

Long time PTIers know there’s been a lot of dissatisfaction discussion about Sprint and their customer service.  Some of that discussion has been focused on Sprint’s CEO, Gary Forsee.  Well PTIers, it seems like Wall Street is dissatisfied as well with Mr. Forsee.  Today’s Wall Street Journal reports that Sprint Nextel is seeking a replacement for Mr. Forsee.  Some big time Sprint investor, Ralph Whitworth of Relational Investors LLC, has put the pressure on Sprint’s board to move Forsee out.  Whitworth says he has lost confidence in Forsee’s leadership.   I’m sure Whitworth’s dissatisfaction is stock price, subscriber base and competitive positioning related.  But you never know, he might also be a Sprint customer.   Heck, he might even be a PTI reader.

PTIers,

Let’s have some fun!!  Let’s explore and try some of these techniques out!!  As we have done a lot of posts about Sprint and their devious ways, there are some folks out there with some outlandish ideas pertaining to avoiding Sprint early termination fees!  Let’s hear from you.   I will add a couple of the methods that I have heard of and want you to share yours.   Try these at your own risk, but if you do try any of these methods…..TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!!!

You’ve Got to Be Kidding…. Sprint raises texting charges to 20 Cents!!!! August 28, 2007

OK PTIers,

As soon as you think you’ve seen it all from Sprint, YOU AIN’T SEEN NUTHIN!!!!  Sprint has announced that they will be raising their text messaging rate five cents on Oct. 1 to 20 cents per message!  Wasn’t it about this time last year that they raised it to 15 cents from a dime???

But it even gets better.  Remember last year when we talked about being able to get out of your contract because of the term change with no termination fee??  Well, apparently when you agreed to 15 cents you also bought in to the new terms of a new agreement that now allows terms of service to change!!!!

So what does this mean?? This means that if you want to change your plan or cancel, you have to pay a fee or at least honor the contract (which you were scammed into in the first place), but now Sprint can flip the script any time it chooses with no problem!!  I can’t believe this!!!

Is there any PTIer out there that can confirm this or give us any advise.  Show me the door and I will break it down to get out of my agreement!!!

Alright PTIers… yet another Sprint fiasco.  Remember last December when I bought my daughter one of those cool LG Fusion phones?  Well, about 3 months after I bought it, the screen developed a big white, blank square right in the middle of the display.  No problem, right? I have a one year warranty and it was only three months.  WRONG!  The way it works for the first year is the customer has a choice, you can send the phone back to LG and be without a phone for two weeks minimum, or you can pay Sprint $55 bucks to repair it on the spot!  Which one would you choose?

Well, guess what?  About 4 months after the repair, the screen began fading away again!  I took my daughter to the Sprint store (an authorized repair facility, no doubt) and they gave me the same choice again!  Send the phone away for 2 weeks, or pay another $55 bucks for the repair!  And, BTW…. the technician told me today that this is a known problem with the Fusion phone!  So here I am facing $110 of repair costs, for a phone that is less than a year old and under warranty!!!  Heck, the phone only cost me $179!!!!  Sprint…. YOU SUCK!!!!  I hope you lose every customer you ever signed up!!  I really mean it.  Please call me and let me be one of the folks that you let out of their contract.  I dare you!!!

Can you imagine buying a vehicle and then taking it to the dealership and they tell you to send it to Detroit for a warranty repair (at your cost), and wait a month to have it returned, of pay the dealer 20% of the cost of the vehicle cost??

Is any other PTIer having this issue with the LG Fusion???  How long am I suppposed to pay $55 bucks for this issue.  Are there any resolution tatics that were successful for you? Please let me know.  Thanks.

PPC 6800… the Mogul is Here!!! I think I’m in love…again! July 22, 2007

OK PTIers, I admit.  I hated the look of the PPC 6700 when Fast Follower first got his.  I was a diehard Treo user from the days of the Treo 300.   In fact, here are my exact commets from over a year ago……

“The problem that I have with the 6700. It is ugly. I don’t want to take it out in public, its so ugly. It looks like a thick ice cream bar! Let’s face it…a car can have all the horsepower and interior features, but if it doesn’t look good on the outside, you don’t want it. Let’s face it part of being on the leading edge is being and looking good! I like the 6700 behind closed doors, but I can’t be seen on a date with it!”

But as I got to know the 6700, I grew to love its functionality.  At the time there was no phone with Wifi, touchscreen, Slingboxability, etc.  I turned in my 700wx and have never looked back.

However, the other day I was in the Sprint store with my daughter, and I saw it out of the corner of my eye.  I tried not to look.  I told myself that I was there to get my daughter’s phone fixed and not to purchase a new device.  I told myself that I needed all of my extra cash for our upcoming family vacation.  But I couldn’t resist.  There it was the PPC  6800, the HTC Mogul.  I saw some early versions of the 6800 at the CES show last year, but there have been some refinements since then.  Simply put…  after the makeover, the device looks good!!!

I was quickly reminded of the lyrics from the 1981 hit by Slave……

But I’m Lookin’ At You From The Corner Of My Eye
I Can See You Now, You’re Steppin’ So High And I’m ….

Love At First Sight, Ooh, Baby, You’re Blowin’ My Mind
I Just Got To Let You Know, Energy Flowin’ I Said It Feels So Good
I Gotta Tell You My Name Is “Tell It Like It Is”, What’s Yours, Baby, Whoa !!!!

PTIers, I gotta tell you, I am not ready for a new device quite yet, but I gotta get the Mogul.  I am going to resist, but I already know that I can’t fight this one.  I will have one within the next 60 days.

Here is a comprehensive write up on the unit…. http://www.mobiletechreview.com/phones/HTC-Mogul.htm

Does anyone have one?  Is there anything the thing doesn’t do?  I don’t know much about the new Qualcomm CPU, but maybe this is what Windows Mobile 6 needed to get rid of the slight sluggishness that exists in the 6700.  In the review above, the thing has all of the stars filled in!!!

PTIers, let me hear from you.

Another Sprint Scam….Roaming Charges!! February 16, 2007

Is it just me, or is Sprint playing games again?  Help me understand….I have been with Sprint quite some time now.  I have been living in the same area for over 12 years, but each year my roaming minutes seem to be increasing by the bill!  All the while, I keep seeing the Sprint commercials in my local area claiming to improve coverage continuously.  Help me understand, how Sprint keeps improving coverage, but my roaming charges keep increasing!  So I am supposed to believe that you are increasing coverage in my major metropolitan area, but I am increasingly finding myself outside of the coverage area even though I haven’t moved in years!  What a scam!  PTIers, something doesn’t smell quite right with this scenario!

Here is the kicker, however.  I called Sprint to complain, and without skipping a beat they tried to add yet another monthly charge for some type of unlimited roaming plan!  Can you believe this!  Let me see how this works, I sell you a plan, I back off and increase your roaming charges, I claim to increase coverage in your area, and then I get so customer driven that I offer you an unlimited roaming add-on to your existing plan to solve the problem.  I was born at night, but not last night!

Has anyone else noticed this?  Let me know if you have been scammed too!  I am so tired of Sprint.  Verizon, hear my prayers!
